Today we use paint systems and they depend on the substrate layers for proper adhesion and binding of the layers to complete the system.
Then apply a second light coat.
Graphics will be easier to remove from a clear coated surface.
Take the sample out in the sunlight and examine it from every possible angle.
Wait four hours after the last coat is sprayed before handling the area.
Spray two to three coats of clearcoat paint over the area that has been scuffed including the vinyl graphics waiting five minutes between each coat.
In all instances i had the company that does the vinyl graphics on our company vehicles supply and cut the vinyl.
Allow that layer to dry completely before applying a second or third coat.
They can really stand out if only on the vinyl but it looks like it was meant to be that way if you cover the whole mug.
Why clear coat over these jeep decals.
I used an automotive acrylic urethane as my topcoat.
Wait another 10 minutes.
Clear coat and acrylic type paints could and likely will disturb and smear most printed graphics.
If you are to attempt the clear coating procedure always test test test.
I have attached a picture of a table i did several years ago for a 60.
Add one light coat of clear automotive urethane to the decal.
Wait about 10 minutes for the first coat to dry.
And likely it will only work well with die cut style vinyl decals not printed ones.
Hold the can six to eight inches from the surface and use thin coats so the paint doesn t run.
If you do decide to go with a clear coat we highly recommend testing the results on a separate piece of your vinyl wrap.
To seal vinyl decals on mugs simply cover the entire mug with some dishwasher safe mod podge.
