Dry cleaning solvent can also be used to treat oil stains. Blot until no more oil appears on the paper towel. Use a lifting motion and blot until no more oil comes off on the paper towel. Allowing the carpet to stay moist for too long may result in mold.

Sprinkle baking soda or cornstarch on the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes to absorb the oil. If that doesn t work try a carpet shampooer. Blot it onto the stained area with a clean cloth and blot with a separate cloth to remove. Let that stand overnight or longer then vacuum it up.

Use sparingly to avoid the solvent soaking in to the carpet backing or pads. Make sure the water is not hot. Test a small inconspicuous area of the carpet to make sure it can withstand the cleaning solution without staining or fading. Use a detergent solution by mixing one teaspoon of clear dish washing liquid with one cup of warm water.

You can get under it more. If possible scrape off excess oil. Dry cleaning solvent should never be used on polyester. Slowly blot in a mixture of warm water and a mild detergent containing no bleach or alkalies preferably a product.

Press hard enough for the solvent to penetrate deep into the carpet fibers. Apply a small amount of cleaning solution to washcloth.
